Winter Lane beneath Fresh Snow

Fresh snow covers the narrow lane between two old stone walls. A line of footprints runs from the foreground towards the cottage, changing size and depth as it crosses the gentle slope. Snow sits unevenly on the wall tops, gate rails and tangled hedges, leaving dark stone and twig shapes to work through underneath.

The cottage window glows near the centre, with rolling fields spreading behind it towards a pink-blue horizon. Bare branches make a broad pattern across the upper edge, while a dark evergreen breaks the white at the bend. Begin with the footprints and the gate, then move into the wall stones. The open fields are pale, but their fence lines and distant trees keep them from becoming one blank section.
