Chrysanthemums on a Nursery Bench

Three large chrysanthemum pots fill the front bench with mounds of gold, burgundy and pale pink flowers. Their leaves spill over weathered timber, while blank plant markers rise above the petals. More benches recede through the nursery, bringing smaller pots, glass panes and warm patches of autumn color into the distance.

The flower heads are full of tiny repeating shapes, so the pots and bench edges are useful anchors. Gold petals change from bright yellow in the sun to ochre beneath the leaves. Burgundy and pink blooms have their own clusters of dark centers and pale highlights. Follow the slats, fallen leaves and greenhouse paths when the rounded flower masses begin to look alike.
