Desert Dunes at Sunset

Late sunlight catches the crest of a sweeping desert dune and leaves its far slope in cool shadow. Fine ripples run across the foreground, interrupted by a few wiry clumps of grass where the sand begins to rise. Along the distant ridge, five camels and their riders cross the horizon in a loose, evenly spaced line.

Long dune edges provide the clearest route through the picture, especially where bright apricot sand meets muted brown shade. Foreground ripples change direction around the grass, giving those quieter pieces more information than their similar colors first suggest. Farther back, overlapping ridges soften from copper to dusty rose, while the caravan and the pale blue upper sky offer a clean finish at the top.
