Desert Dunes at Sunset

A dune has two sides. Wind pushes sand up the long, gentle slope and over the crest, where it slides down a steep face on the sheltered side. In this desert jigsaw puzzle a sharp dune crest glows at sunset while a camel caravan crosses the far ridge. Because sand keeps blowing over the top, a big dune can creep forward several feet or more in a year.
