Fishing Boats in a Foggy Harbor

Fog lies over a harbor where painted fishing boats are tied along wet wooden docks. A red boat fills the foreground, with blue and yellow boats farther back. Rope coils, floats and nets gather beside the nearest pilings. Across the water, weathered sheds and trees grow less distinct as they recede into the mist.

Red, blue and yellow hulls keep their color in the fog, but the buildings behind them lose definition with distance. The water repeats the boats' colors in broken vertical reflections. A crisp strip of red paint therefore belongs in a different place from a wavering red reflection. Ropes, nets and the dock edge make the right side much denser than the harbor beyond, offering a change of pace from the softer water.
