Painted Houses on a Steep Lane

A steep cobbled lane drops between faded coral, ochre and white houses towards a bright strip of sea. Blue shutters repeat across the façades, while flowerpots, balconies and a line of pale laundry break up the walls. Steps and paving stones carry strong diagonals through the lower half of the picture.

The blue shutters are useful color islands, but their slats point in different directions. Build the central lane next, following its narrowing edges towards the water. Flowerpots add warm round shapes along both sides, and the balconies make small dark frames above them. Laundry belongs in separate pale groups rather than one long band. Keep the distant sea and rooftops for the end, when the lane has a clear route.
